Facebook should give you more than one thumbnail option. Did you try scrolling through them by clicking the < > arrows next to the thumbnail image before hitting post?

If you don't have more options, or don't like any of them, you should be able to specify what thumbnail Facebook uses as a default choice for your site by adding the following to your website index file:
<link rel="image_src" href="http://example.com/images/logo.gif" />

I'm loving the Facebook like box widget in the sidebar of my website, but the appearance of it could be improved upon IMO. For example, the website icon or thumbnail that appears next to each post in the stream takes up too much room! It makes the stream super narrow and hard to read. And since the thumbnail appears in the header with a link to the FB page, I really don't see a reason to have it repeated in front of each post.

Is there a way to decide what image Facebook uses as a thumbnail when I post a link to my site on my FB page? It keeps grabbing this random background image which isn't very useful.

Try logging out and back in again. If that doesn't work, clear your browser's cookies and cache, then re-login and see if it works. If Facebook chat still isn't cooperating, maybe wait a couple hours and see if it resolves itself.

Does this happen on more than one PC?

I'm getting the following error when trying to chat in Facebook: "Chat Error. Chat disabled for internal login." WTF? Anyone know how to fix this? Does internal login mean I logged in from another service, as opposed to directly into FB?

I'm getting the same thing. Restarted my computer, logged in and out, hopefully it just goes away.

Will probably go away in a bit. I would just wait for it to resolve itself.

I'm trying to hit the "Like" button on Facebook and I keep getting the error message "An error occurred while writing to our database. Please try again later."

As far as I can tell my Facebook inbox is already one big privacy violation. According to the Facebook API, developers have access to it. So I don't think there will be a huge improvement in privacy protocol when Facebook email addresses are publicly released...

Facebook email addresses are an interesting proposition, considering the privacy implications involved. It's true that out of Facebook's half a billion users, over a third (350 million) use their instant messaging (IM) system. But their IM system only interfaces with existing Facebook users.

Having a Facebook email address that interfaces with users outside Facebook brings privacy implications into question, especially considering the pressure Google faced when releasing Gmail inbox content to advertisers....

Facebook email addresses aren't available yet (but hopefully will be soon!)

Heard today that it's possible to get a Facebook email address (ie. myname@facebook.com). I don't see how to access this feature however. Can anyone here at Guru of Search provide some guidance as to how I can setup my own Facebook email address?

You can find the Facebook page ID of any Facebook page by visiting that page, placing your mouse over the logo image (top left), right-clicking, and copying the "link destination" (or "link location"). It will be of the form

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?profile=1&id=199346521222

You'll see that the last argument is the page's ID number (&id=199346521222).

If you have your browser's status bar enabled, you can also simply hover over the logo, and the link will show up in the status bar (bottom left) or your browser window.

I'm trying to add a Facebook Like Box from the FB developer's social plugin page. The first thing the code asks me for is the "Facebook Page ID." Of course, when I click the help icon, it simply says "The ID of the Facebook page for this like box." Uh, thanks, that really explains it. Those wise guys.

Anyways, if anyone could help me find the ID of a Facebook page, I would be very grateful. By the way, the page is already aliased, so the ID doesn't show up in the URL as it does with un-aliased pages (those withour usernames).

Great question. The location of this setting has moved several times. As of the date of this writing, you can access it via Account (top left) > Edit Friends. In the left-hand column you'll see a "Lists" section. You should see your "limited profile" here. Click on it, then on "Edit List" above the center column, and finally, search for and click on members you want to add to your "limited profile." Click on the "save changes" button when you're done.

All the constant adjustments Facebook is making to its privacy settings are driving me bonkers. Don't get me wrong - I think more privacy fine tuning options are good, but it seems like every time they make an update it gets harder to find what I'm looking for.

Does anyone know where, currently, the setting is where I can add specific friends to my custom profile lists? For example, I have a "limited profile" list, members of which don't have access to my Wall. How can I add a specific friend or two to this list that's not yet on it?

For the time being I would just use their simple (basic) uploader. Facebook apps are known to have issues that should resolve over time. if you're still having this problem in a few weeks, feel free to post back and we can take a closer look at your specific situation.

I'm trying to upload photos using Facebook's upload utility. I had to restart Internet Explorer to get the "Active X" thing to pop-up. I did that, and now I finally see the upload utility. I'm able to browse my PC and select photos for upload. They upload all the way and then the program crashes, along with the webpage.

The second time I tried the Facebook uploader it finished, but then stayed stuck at "waiting for response from server." No matter how long I wait it doesn't seem to get past this step. I ended up using the basic (manual) uploader, but since you can only do 5 at a time this takes forever when you have dozens of photos. Is anyone else experiencing the response from server problem/ or have an idea as to how to get it to work?
